Hockey Northland Awards evening proceeded within the current level 2 framework.  Guests included the Mayoress Sheryl Mai and Councillors, Patron MP Dr Shane Reti, NHA President Bill Shepherd and a good representation of our Association with Sponsors, Administrators, Coaches, Managers, Officials, Volunteers and Players in attendance.

This year has been a challenge – with only one representative national tournament held this year, which was the Vantage National U18 Men and Women.  On the home scene of Northland we managed to complete a full year of our club competition – the last weekend we went into lockdown and the membership still wanted to play – so the finals were extended into October.

Guest speakers for the Awards evening : ‘1996 Northland Hockey Mens team” that won the Challenge Shield 25 years ago.  It was a nostalgic journey and many stories so the evening was filled with laughter and the greatness in time of the most memorable year of 1996.  MC Steve Shepherd and Paul Snelling managed to get a few of the players to the dinner, some are still playing today.

Our awards reflect the hard work of  those individuals that have been nominated by their Clubs – in a unique year of hockey. Special note of the Service awards this year as many recipients were humbled by these awards. All of the 24 winners citations showing just what our volunteers do across many different aspects of hockey to make this game so awesome.   Hockey Northland and the HN Board congratulate the worthy recipients of these awards.
