Hockey Northland was established in 1903 and is the northern most region in New Zealand. It was the first association to combine men and women under the same umbrella in 1976. Most of the hockey is played in Whangārei although Bay of Islands (as a sub-association) is based in Kaikohe and has just over 300 members. We promote Hockey in the Northland region having player development and participation opportunities at our facility, in schools and the Northland community.
It has grown over the years to have a total of over 2,500 members. Whangarei has three water turfs, making it one of New Zealand's most comprehensive Hockey facilities. The facilities at Hockey Northland include a full bar/kitchen and lounge/conference room. These can all be hired for events/business seminars.
The historical grandstand from the Kensington Racecourse was relocated to the facility and restored and overlooks the main EVE’s Turf. Situated underneath the grandstand is an indoor training centre and a seminar room facility.
Hockey Northland’s facility sponsor is Whangārei ITM.
